Film and television production - Quebec is your best choice

Figures that speak for themselves

The Quebec government offers some of the most advantageous cash rebates available in North America:

  • 20% cash-back on all expenses;
  • 20% bonus on all CGI and green screen shots applicable on extended eligible labor;
  • No minimum spend - No caps

In Quebec, the tax credit is based on all expenditures and the producer is not required to release the film in Quebec. This tax credit corresponds to 20% of all expenditures, with no prescribed limit, paid to Quebec residents or Quebec companies. For digital special effects (VFX) and computer animation, a 16% tax credit enhancement is added, on extended eligible labor. Equally, filming in front of a green screen is included in the credit enhancement.

At the federal level, you get an additional tax incentive of 16%, net of any assistance, of eligible labour expenditures within Canada (CISP).

YOUR TOTAL EFFECTIVE TAX CREDIT COULD REACH UP TO 38.4%.

In regard to tax credits, the Québec Film and Television Council (QFTC) is the single point of contact for foreign film and television producers. Have a look at the clip they prepared about filming in Québec.

Places, People and State-of-the-art Resources

Quebec is actually the largest province/state in North America, so it offers countless landscapes and sceneries. In addition, Montreal and Quebec City - being the oldest cities in North America and having rich cultural ties to Europe - lend themselves faithfully to all sorts of settings, from modern to historical, with a touch of Europe or NYC if needed. The pictures appearing in the header above were all taken in the Montreal area.

You will also find the infrastructure and state-of-the-art resources that make large-scale studio based productions possible. Moreover, through the years, Montreal has become one of the largest post-production hubs in the world with over 40 visuals effects companies. There is something in this city - home of Cirque du Soleil - that spurs creativity.

And finally, the people here are friendly and respectful, the food is fantastic and the entertainment has that "je-ne-sais-quoi" that other cities envy. Your stay here is sure to be enjoyable and memorable.
