Health & Safety: A Practical Approach

Having a safe work environment, trained workers and the proper equipment are some of the crucial elements of a proper Health & Safety strategy. In this regard, our approach is very practical and built on the fact that, while productions come and go, we have an ongoing presence in Quebec. That allows us to have permanent access to the things that can help producers meet their health and safety responsibilities. Here as elsewhere, under the health and safety legislation, the ultimate responsibility lies with the employer.

Training

IATSE 514 has been actively involved in Health & Safety training since day one. In addition to including it in our collective agreements, IATSE 514 was a key player in the creation of the very first training organization of the Quebec film industry, which provided hundreds of our members with health and safety training adapted to the film and television industry. Numerous courses and certificates are offered, such as:

  • Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS)
  • Scaffolding
  • Boom and scissor-lift safety
  • Propane handling
  • Transportation of hazardous material
  • And more!
  • Workplace first aid
  • Forklift safety
  • Elevated work platform safety
  • Chainsaw handling
  • Pyrotechnics special effects safety

IATSE 514 can arrange the health and safety training you require for your workforce: our members.

Equipment

Having the proper equipment adapted to a function is a big part of any Health & Safety strategy. IATSE 514 can help make sure that our members have the basic appropriate equipment to do their job, thanks to our Health & Safety Fund (see article 13.9 of the collective agreement). Our Health & Safety Fund has provided hundreds of our members with professional grade safety equipment, such as:

  • Hard hats
  • Safety footwear
  • Safety harnesses with slings, for men and women
  • Hearing protection
  • Safety glasses
  • Respiratory protection
  • Work gloves
  • And more!

Safety equipment, no reason to go without!
